Default 77 mm Nuetral Density Filter?

I am looking for a 77mm Neutral Density filter for my 24-105mm Canon lens. The primary purpose would be to make blurs. I am trying to decide whether I should get a 4 stop or 6 stop--I also cannot seem to find a slim version at 77 mm. Any suggestions as to 4 stop or 6--or brand would be appreciated..

    Thanks...

Rocky a .9 should be fine which is what I use. It is actually a three stop ND filter. The four stop should work but remember the viewfinder will be darker and the six will be close to unusable.

Slim version? They usually have those for the smaller sizes like the drop in for big lenses. Check out B+W filters, if one is available they would have it.

Thanks Al....I cannot seem to find a slim 77mm ND. I have heard there is less vignetting with the slim filters but they are a PITA. I guess I will go with the standard size as it will fit the 100-400mm also.
The Singh-Ray variable ND is available in a slim mount but is $$$

Here are some 3 mm thick ones made by Hoya, this is a good place to buy from, they also have Tiffen and B+W but I did not see any thin ones made by them. They also carry Cokin.

Singh-Ray makes an incredible Vari-ND filter that I have used on my 24-105. You can adjust the amount of density that you need to get the shutter speed and blur that you want. They also offer a Duo version combining a Vari-ND with a polarizer all in one. Here's the link to them:

Here is an image I made using a polarizer and the Vari-ND and an ISO of 100 to attain a shutter speed of 6 seconds. Any shorter shutter speed would not have shown the slow moving whirlpool of leaves.

Singh-Ray Variable ND filter is a nice one. Roman uses it and I will probably buy one soon.

Rocky, 3 stops is generally all you need. 4 will have limited usefulness and 6 is way too much. I only use 6 stops with the 600mm to do blurs in bright sun.

Reading this thread on filters has been very informative. Way too many magazines say so many different things, who do you believe. I find the experienced voices here so much more reliable. I learned something new today. as I do every time I log on. Thanks!
