    Default Lightroom: DNG or RAW

    Hi,

Do you convert your RAW images to DNG before processing? If you do, why; if you don't, why?

No, I make adjustments to the RAW file and then save as 16-bit TIFF in order to make final adjustments in Photoshop.

    Same as Axel.

Adjustments to RAW, save as TIFF. Then all of my work is based on
    that TIFF file.

Maybe I should clarify a little. I still make adjustments in my TIFF file,
but for adjustments like white balance, I do that in RAW. I guess in a way,
I make my fine tune adjustments in TIFF.

Do you ever use DNG? If not, why is it available?

Also, why do you save as a TIFF and not as a PSD?

    Thanks,

DNG is just another lossless format. I use 16bit TIFF since I wouldn't have to change much if I want to print it. There is nothing wrong with the other formats as far as I can tell.

Wold be nice to be able to use DNG since all the info is in one file (no side cart) the downside is producing the RAW file. I know for the BBC contest you can not use the DNG for the finals.... need the RAW file.

When converting you can have the option for converting and keeping a copy of the original RAW but sure takes up space. btw if you run into a raw format PS is unable to read converting to dng will solve the problem.
