Finally got an Allen's, albeit a female. I have found that the 50D isn't too noisy at higher ISO's as long as you don't underexpose the image.

I wish the wings were at a better angle.

Good self critique. The flower is beautiful, but it competes with the bird in a way.
The little time I had the 50D I noticed even 1/3 underexposed was really bad even before you convert.

Good exposure control, details and BG. The flower is not too big for me.

Nice exp on a good image. I would crop some of the empty space off the top.

    Aidan,

Yes you captured it and captured it well.

I think a bit tighter crop may be of benefit on this one. Try taking off the top, less on the bottom and right and see what you think.

    Thanks all for the comments,

Kim: I would crop as you suggested, but I like the extra space, and dislike squarish crops.

Nice image, and agree with above comments. Is the background natural, or was this an inserted backdrop?

Jory, the background is natural: OOF grasses about 30ft away.
