Hi, I"m hoping this will be the first in just a few....a bird (haven't seen her close yet) has built a nest in a wreath I have on my front door. This is the first photo---4 small pale blue eggs. Wish the branch weren't in front of them, but I don't want to disturb the nest. I had the iso down to 100 with no flash, so it's a bit dark. My door has glass behind the nest, so flast made too much light. I'm not that skilled in macro, so any advice would be appreciated. Sure will make it fun trying to get into the house when they hatch! By the way, I always thought birds sat on their nests til the eggs hatched, but this one comes and goes.

I'm going to reply with another shot that is not so cropped. Which do you prefer?

this is a horz view that shows more around the nest. Does the "more" add interest to the comp or take away

    Hi Hazel,
You got yourself a mighty fine nest...:D I took the liberty in modifying your base image by cropping it all the way around, opening up the mid-tones and the blacks...I increased the saturation on the eggs just a tad, and selective sharpened, with a pass of noise reduction...see if this presents best to you...

    Hi Hazel

I like the cropped version and Gus did a fine job !! You will have some fun with these guys !!

Not sure why go to ISO 100? Going higher will allow you more shutter speed and smaller opening for more dof. Is it possible to use a tripod there? If hand holding do you have anything to brace against? Wish you could set it up and trigger with a remote !!! Looking forward to the babies ... btw do post or pm any questions you need !!!

Thanks for the re-work, Gus. Much better I'll use your guidelines and re-do the original as a learning experience.

The ISO question? not sure why I had it there. I'll raise it. No, I can't use a tripod. It's in the top of a dried berry wreath on my front door. I had to get up on a step and hold the camera over the nest to get the shot. I'll try to brace better next time. I plan on taking one a day (no, I won't post them all!) and do a sort of still shot documentary.
