This is a lovely bird. I like the composition and the BG is just great. The beak and head area appears sharp but the chest detail is a little soft. Perhaps you could have widened your DOF.

Pretty bird, perch, and BG. Looks a little soft on my monitor, but it doesn't look like you had a lot of room for more DOF. Of course the Mark III does some pretty incredible things at ISO 1600.

Gorgeous lighting and a very interesting perch. I agree about the softness around the breast area but the head is tac sharp I f I also think a vertical crop is an alternative option in this image. Great image and thanks for sharing !!

    Hi rosl,

You guys have these incredible beautiful Kingfishers, I am sooooo jealous!

There's a few things I see here that would improve the image. A little more room at the bottom for starters, because the branch parallel to the edge of th frame is too close to it at the bottom, needing room to "breathe". A little head turn your way would have been nice, What we do is make your image as is, just in case, then make a little noise to attrack his attention, most of the time it works, sometimes they go :( that's why you had an image already.

Now, it coulld use another round of sharpening around the eye area.

I really like this, great colors, perch and BG. Maybe a bit more room and some selective sharpening. I don't mind that there is no direct eye contact since the beak is parallel to the branch underneath, which looks very nice.

Really nice. What a cool perch. Just wish for a head turn.

In this picture there is a slightly different head position. May be you like this one better?
I stayed three days with the kingfisher; but he chose that perch only once....

I like them both and would put him a little bit further to the left in the frame and maybe a bit more sharpening, too.

A beautiful kingfisher, and I prefer the second post because the head angle is so much better. The perch is very nice, and the bg is complimentary. I like your composition in this image also. Still appears to need a bit more usm. Lovely capture.
