    This bird was photographed a few days ago in an open field near the ocean at Huntington Beach, CA. ID help would be appreciated . . .

    The overall dusky colour, rust undertail coverts, "sparrow-ish" shape, and location photo taken in would all suggest California Towhee.

    Based on the photo it could also be a Canyon Towhee. But I'm voting for California Towhee due to the location of the bird in Southern California.

    Plain breast and Cinnamon markings on the face indicate California Towhee.
