i had a request from resident advisor, mr cobos, for a view of this sort? anyways, this is from the florida international airshow last weekend. full framer with the exception of a slight crop off the right. minimal PP work. i think i set the b&w point and a small amount of sharpening.
D300, Bigma at 500mm, f/6.3, 1/1600s, 0EV, ISO 400.
after the show, i had an epiphany. i am using a lens that has a variable aperture. 4-6.3. what i hadnt realized is that as i zoom in and out my exposure is changing in Manual mode. i was shooting in Manual as i was panning back and forth going from blue skies to white skies. i had to be in Manual for that situation. so if i was at 50mm my f/ stop was 4 and when at 500mm it was at f/6.3. a huge difference! my exposures at longer focal lengths were a little underexposed. and as we all know, when the subject is dark in color underexposure allows noise to creep in. the blue angels happen to be DARK subjects. just a lesson that i learned and wanted to share with everyone.
thanks for looking. comments and critiques are welcome and appreciated.
Doctor Davis,
Thank you for the capture...it's great and totally unconventional, just the way I like it...:D You did very well. I like the bold, vibrant contrasting colors...good show...
Aside from the wonderful details and exposure you've captured on this one H. What really makes it stand out for me is the way you framed this shot.
Big time congrats
I love this, Harold! It's dramatic and bold thanks to your composition, the vibrant color and great detail. Thank you also for passing along your tip about manual settings and zoom lenses...I hadn't thought about that before so it is helpful.
