I love small mammals for their ability to display such human emotions and postures, I see a prairie dog being a lazy teenager here. Put a video game controller in her hands and we could all recongize that blank stare.

The light was on my side, and I got this neat view. Seeing an animal's feet is rare, and the dog has hairy soles. The pose was after she was at full standing attention, she just plopped down on her butt, and watched the world pass her by.

The one thing I would change in this shot is the out of focus dirt pile heading out of frame bottom right.

    D300, 500 f4 w 1.4 TC + 25mm ext tube @ f7.1, 1/320, EV -.3, ISO 200, tripod lowered to about 2.5 feet for low angle, sun behind clouds, full frame.

    Jared,

I like your analysis of your image - right on. The P. Dog posture and pose if perfect. Agree with the dirt pile. I would like the green plant in the back more if it was not touching the frame edge. If you clone out the OOF dirt, I suggest the green plant too and see how it looks.

Great shot, especially the pose. Great DOF, with entire animal sharp. I agree with the others, re: cloning out upper right green patch, and perhaps trying to clone in more in-focus dirt in foreground to cover the mound.

Tremendous shot Jared. Such a great pose, and very human-like as you discuss. The dirt on the bottom right is unfortunate, but certainly not a big issue.
    Love it.

I love the playful pose and colors. I also like the hints of green and the dirt mound is what it is.
