This image was captured as as these eagles squabbled over a piece of fish. Their amazing agility in flight is wonderful to watch. Cropped for better composition and added canvas.

Great moment captured! The interaction is very dramatic and the partially cloudy sky adds to it. There is only problem: I can't see the fish. :)

Hi Linda, I loved it then and I love it now. The look on the face of the bird in the back is priceless. When and where did you get a 1DS MII???

    Later and love, artie

ps to Axel: Salmon chunks are not much to look at...

    Linda
A terrific action packed image. I love the squabbling between the 2 eagles. I saw it when in Homer but we always had lousy weather. What I wouldn't have given to get an image like this. Well done.

I love this image. The expression on the faces of the Eagles clearly shows who won! What a thrill this must have been to capture. Fantasic exposure.

Great action, beautiful poses, exposure spot on, composition 10/10 - behaviour presented in an artistic manner, personally I regard this as the ultimate challenge. No nits from me:D

The detail in this image is outstanding, Linda. Thanks for sharing. Capturing something like this at 300mm makes me drool ;)

The images here on this site never fail to amaze me but this is AWESOME, with a 300, OMG, give me a break. What did you do, hold the salmon chunk in your teeth? :)

Linda I noticed, as I do on many, That you were set to Manual. Is this a better way to go than say AV +1 or 2 stops for the sky?? If so, why? Bill

Lovely image, Linda. The background is so beatific and contrasts well with the tension of the eagles sparring (and the harsh angle their wings meeting makes). Great job with the darks and whites, too.

As the one who taught Linda how to work in Manual mode I shall take the liberty of answering for her. When you are working in even and consistent lighting conditions, it pays to switch to Manual mode for several reasons:

1- If the BKGR is changing in tonality (from blue sky to dark trees to white snow for example, or from blue water to breaking wave as another example), you will not have to compensate as you have already set the correct exposure for the subject.

2- If a subject has large dark (like and eagle) or white areas and you are working in Av or Tv, you will need to add much less light as the dark area fills more and more of the frame (as the bird flies closer to you...). Again, when working in manual mode, you will not have to compensate as you have already set the correct exposure for the subject.

To learn more about working in Manual Mode click here: http://www.birdsasart.com/bn215.htm and scroll down to Working in Manual Mode. (Our Bulletin Archives are a tremendous resource and have a great Google search feature.)

    later and love, artie

Thanks for the tip and understanding, I will follow the links. It of course makes a lot of sense. I still use "sweet 16" at times (a hold over from my old Pentax Spotmatic days). But Artie, I gotta be honest with you - she's a whole lot better lookin' than you. :)
