Decided to photograph a different side of our barn for a change. This was taken on the front side looking up. This side has no tar paper strips, but it does have lots of nails sticking out which I thought would make a good focal point. What do you think?
Olympus SP-550 UZ
f6.3 @ 1/30, ISO 100, -0.7 EV
Aperture priority, pattern metering, auto WB
Processed in PS CS2; straightened, slight crop, curves adjustment, channel mixer, hue/saturation layer, applied a film grain filter, and added a light brown vignette
Chris, I think on this image I'd go for more of a square vignette - it's so close to the edges of the nails that I feel it's pressing in a bit too much.
I like your high and mid-tones - might burn those dark areas a bit more just to give them more impact...
Christopher, I like it. I don't know about the vignette-maybe lower the opacity of it. IMHO I think that front nail should be sharp as a tack for this image to pop. I like the composition with the nails in a row falling out of formation-it is very interesting. Christopher I really find these images unique and you have certainly tried alot of different angles-well done!
Thanks for your suggestions Julie and Denise. How does this look? I've darkened the shadows, sharpened the front nail, and made the vignette more rectangular.
