So often I fail miserably when trying to capture a beautiful landscape because the scope is so broad and the camera just doesn't see as our eyes do, so I'm interested in your C&C on this image. I'm happy with it but wondering how it could be improved? It is five images photomerged in CS3.

    Canon 40D; f8, 1/800; Eval 0 comp; ISO 400 and 24-105 @105

Katie ---I know nothing about landscapes---It looks great to me. I did notice that the sky was not as blue on the left side. You might try a darker blue that would make the orange stand out.

Hi Katie - my humble opinion - love the scene, find the sky is a little washed out on the LHS and lacks detail.

I think this would have been a situation for one of romans 3 stop graduated neutral density filters- would have cut down the dynamic range and given some more detail/punch to the sky.

Dont think you could have done any better in camera without it. So I would selct the sky and add some contrast and maybe make the blue a little darker.

    Hi Katie,
I agree that the LH side isn't the same tonally......but that is probably the way it was..........I don't think the split ND would work in this case with the stitch......one frame yes......but the stitching probably not. I took this into PS and did some layers adjustment of levels in the sky......also a bit of burning to even out the tone a bit. I pulled back the cyan some and adjustted the blue.....lastly a bit of contrast boost to make the final pop. All these are tweaks......you composed it very nicely and I like the play between the lighter and dark areas and the flow of the dunes from right to left. I'd bet this looks very good in a large size. Very nicely done.

    Hi Katie:
I'm another one that can not give you techs like Roman can. I do like your composition and the tones that you came up with for your final product.
    Congrats and Regards,
