Wow, another life bird for me. And without even getting on a plane. The image is sharp and the composition is very nice, but getting lower would have improved it tremendously. Getting down on one knee would have been good, getting even lower would have been better. By having to point the lens down at the bird you lose any possible intimacy and it addition, you pick up all of the distracting stuff on the surface of the water. Were you confined to a boardwalk or some other high spot?

Would add trying for a little different pose so the legs would not overlap More of a side pose would really show the bird well !!!! I like it a lot !!!

A good portrait of this White Faced Heron Chris. Agree with Art though re a lower perspective would have worked better, but thats not always possible.

Yes Arthur once again I was confined to a viewing platform but I am hoping to get a lend of the keys of the reserve shortly so I will be able to shoot from ground level.

This is the adult who has a baby in tow but so far I have yet to be able to get both in the same frame to show the difference in size as the baby is a perfect copy in miniature but I will keep trying until I do.

The photo below shows the baby feeding alongside a Stilt so you can see how much smaller it is compared to the parent but Mum/Dad seems to fly protective patrols (to warn when the myriad of Raptors that abound here pose a danger) when the baby is feeding but I would love a chance to photograph them together.

I've never seen this lovely heron before either. Hope you get a chance at the baby and parent together...especially once you get the oppurtunity to photograph these great birds from a lower angle.

All things come to those that wait and wait and persevere I will.

Thank you all again for your great advice.

    Cheers
