    Default Female Carib Grackle

OK enough lurking in the shadows from me and time to take the plunge and start making a humble contribution :). Here's a recent shot of a Carib Grackle from a holiday in Grenada.

    Canon 1D Mark II, Canon 400mm f/5.6L, 12mm extension, 1/500s @f/5.6, ISO 400.

I look forward to your feedback and hope to provide some of my own.

Hi Andy, welcome! Very nice shot, I like the composition (maybe a bit off the top?), sharpness and BG. The head angle looks good to me but could be better if she had tilted toward you a bit with her bill. Great eye! The lighting seems a bit harsh, probably due to the time of day, the perch is a little bright. The birds tail being such a big OOF element is a little distracting to my eye, but what can you do? Next time ask her to bring her tail into the focal plane:D. Good show here!

I'm glad you got took the plunge Andy! Excellent exposure on the bird, I'm OK with the light but I agree the perch could be toned down...the burn tool, set at about 8-10% opacity, would work great for this. Head turn could be better as mentioned. Re: DOF - I'm sure the extention tube has robbed you a bit of it, if not necessary I would personally not use it. Having said this, the parts that need to be sharp are indeed sharp :-)

    Keep them coming!!
