I did a quick search and came up empty. I know something has got to be out here already but I couldn't find it.
Anyway, I have a Rebel XT that is in excellent condition and is sitting around here not being used. I got the idea that it might be worthwhile to convert it to IR. Then it would probably get more use. I know some of you have had IR conversions done to cameras. Can you recommend someone who does such conversions and can you give me an idea of cost?
Hi Ed
I had my nikon d40 converted by Life Pixel..www.lifepixel.com...check out their website... They are one of the best.. Read the website very carefully because there are many different types of ir filters available..I chose the dark black and white conversion...I am happy but must admit I have had mixed results...Also make sure the lens you are going to use is adjusted for focus by them or use the exact canon default lens they use to set the focus at the factory.....Look on my website "web.me.com/nikondenny" and look in the black and white folder for a shot I took of some palm trees here in Florida..

Another vote for Life Pixel.
And I have to add they are very accommodating. I messed up when ordering my conversion and they called me on the phone to make sure what I was ordering was what I needed, which of course it wasn't. and they canceled and reissued the order to make it right.
Ed, just last week I received back a Canon 20D from Lifepixel and I love it. As stated in earlier post, do visit the web site and watch the video tutorial. really cool stuff. Now if Jersey would only green up a bit :D PS: I had the standard conversion done, so I still get color capability but B&W conversion probably won't be as dramatic without some additional coaxing. From early experience, setting a custom white balance will be critical. Raw will also help tweak.
add me to the mix. I converted my 20d to deep B&W IR by lifepixel. They calibrate it to a default 50 1.8 lens unless you give them a lens to use. Since I mainly use zooms on it, I just make sure I shoot at f/11 or f/16 to get sharpness...
you do have to shoot (at least on the canon) at +2 in Manual mode to get a decent exposure. Less if it's nice bright sunny day .... I love it.
