This is an Australian Wood Duck duckling from the south west of Western Australia.
I tried a few crops but in the end preferred this one. I thought the reflection was too distorted in the bow wave of the bird to be included.
Tony I like your composition here but I think that more room at the bottom would be better (of course, I didn´t see the reflection so I do not know if it is very distracting). A different cropping possibiliti is to crop from the left. Very coolo subject and great low angle.
I like the choice of pano comp and the side lighting. (And, of course, the cuteness factor of the duckling carries instant appeal.)
My main concern is that the water at the right of the frame looks oddly distorted compared to the rest of the image. Is this due to the interference of disturbed water from another bird out of frame to the right perhaps?
Great angle, light, details and very cute subject. I like the unusual crop, maybe a tad more room at the bottom and like Leo, I am wondering why the water on the right looks distorted.
With the head angled slightly looking to our left, I'm thinking that cropping away about half of the space at right would be a nice result with the bird so low in the frame. It would also help in minimizing those distortions ;-). Otherwise, I agree more room below would be advantageous to the comp. Very cute, but I'm also wishing for better illumination of the shaded part of the face - surely some fill flash would have helped.
