Cool pose and setting, the noise doesn't look too bad for the high ISO. I assume that you wanted to keep the stomp on the left, the only downside is that the bird is a bit centered.

Agree with image is way cool and the environment is an enhancing factor. Also would like to have seen the bird off centered ... like the stump but its competing with the bird !! I like it a lot !!

I love habitat images. I feel that you could have walked to the right to keep the stomp and place the bird more to the left. Lovely colors, looks like it just rained :)

I understand your inclusion of the stump, but I feel the image would be stronger and cleaner with it cropped away. Did one of the owls ever perch on top of that stump? That would have been killer :-)

They were all over the diagonal branch but I never saw one get on the stump. Maybe I'll get lucky this year.

I really like the intent stare of the owl here Steve and the environment included, if it were mine I would crop some from the left.

Thanks for the comments. I knew I'd take a hit on the stump but felt it balanced out the long diagonal (sort of like a big check mark) and provided a little "frame". To my eye, versions with it removed make me feel like the owl is going to slide off the frame and out of the picture.

I agree with you 100% Steve! Love it as. The stump balances out the image even tho the owl is centered. The stump also makes the environmental aspect of the image more natural looking. A killer image on all counts. It is exactly what one would expect to see if they walked up to the owl in the wild, exactly. I much prefer these types of images to most other sterile types.
