I haven't shot too many landscapes lately so I dug back into the files to when I first went to a digital SLR back in 2005. I was out shooting coyote pictures when I saw this. I was however in Aperature Priority mode and didn't think to check my settings for more depth of field.

Chris I really like the silhouette of the rock in the FG and the colours and the clouds. Just cropped a little from the top and left. Just some ideas for you. What time of year did you go, and can you remember where this was in DV?
Hi Chris,
I like the crop idea off the left.....but just not as much....top center of hill. I love the colors and mood but I may try to lighten it a hair near the mountains on the right. Lastly....I would add a bit more base.....a little narrow to act as a grounding element....just about 1/2 inch should do it. Way to wait for the dramatic color and sky......these are just minor tweaks to help strengthen the image.
Jackie,
I like the crop off of the left. I'm not sure if I like the crop off of the top.
The location was the mountains directly east of Furnace Creek Ranch.
We went during February and it rained off and on the whole time we were there which made for some wonderful photo opportunities as well as an incredible wild flower bloom. There were people actually kayaking and canoeing in Death Valley. It was the most rain for Death Valley in many, many years.
Roman, I agree it could use more base it would ground the image more as you put it.
