Cape Spear Newfoundland, taken with a canon G10 iso 80,1/2000 s, f 2.8 at 28 mm equivalent focal length. We were at cape spear looking for seabirds (specifically scanning large rafts of common eiders for kings).
Hi Gene,
Now you're pandering to the judges....as I love lighthouse! I like the way you used the land for it's leading lines. The colors look pretty good and the light snow does add interest. I would have sacrificed some speed for some more DOF..... that would have brought out some more detail in the FG snow....but my main guess is the lighting was a bit harsh......the lower the light.....the more detail and texture the snow will have. As I look over the image....I feel you had 2 option in the field to help improve the composition......pointing a bit higher and right.....to get the top of the lighhouse away from the edge both top and right......would have placed the focal point more in the ROT position.....greatly strenghtening the comp (nothing you could do about sky....no clouds). Trying a vert comp....a little tighter.....may have also kept the leading lines and eliminated the sky on the left. Just always keep in mind what it was that attracted you to the image....was it the shoreline....or the lighthouse?? If you crop off the top.....and totally eliminate the LH.....now the shorline becomes a strong comp element and greatly minimizes the uniteresting part of the sky.......only other option.....walk around until you could find something similar.....with a way to include both. Since you live there......I hope you get to re-visit it often with different weather.....sure looks interesting!
Hi - Lovely place by the looks - agree with Roman - I think you have two seperate pictures within the one here, The lighthouse feels to tight at the top of the frame for me.
Hope to see some more :)
