    Found another interesting shot from the Florida State Archives. For those who have routinely crossed US-41 have passed by the tiny Ochopee Post Office. This image shows what the area looked like in the 1940's.

    I guess there was a bus depot there. My question is where did you go from there? They were in the middle of the Glades....

    Hi Mike Chocoloskee Island not far from there was the main communication (by water) to Key West. After the RR was built and better communications established things turn more to Miami.

    I'm glad we still have the little post office !!!!

    Nice cars! My older daughter was 39 today; I remember some cars that look like these from when I was a platinum blonde kid in Brooklyn....

    I'm just wondering how these folks would have gotten from Ochopee to anywhere else without a car....the closest town would be Chokoloskee which is a good distance away .... and Miami Back then ended around 57th Avenue (Red Road) .....

    ... Mike if they didn't have a car .... would take the bus :) big sign there. Originally most of the traffic would be up north to Tampa !!
