I have posted this image earlier in colour. I have reworked taking in all the suggestions I received and thought it might be good for BW. Tried to get an element in the FG to provide interest. Did a smaller crop. A two stitch image.

Jackie, Stunning! The 2nd one opens up some of the darker areas-so I would go with that,Thankyou for sharing your info! Will try on my own pics. Love the composition, would clone the small white stone in FG if it were mine.Really nicely done!!!

    Hi Jackie,
Very nicely composed and converted. I do like them both for different reasons.... 2nd one brought out the FG and darker areas......but I lie the sky and contrast pop of the first one. I do agree that the RH side rock could be further toned down or cloned out. Compositionally.....I like the way the LR grass/tundra area balances with the distant LH mountain and the lake leads us nicely to the mountains on the right. A few tweaks will make this an outstanding image! Very nicely composed!

Tried to open up the blacks and keep the contrast of the first. Removed the rock. I think I like it better with the blacks opened up a bit. Thanks for the suggestions.

    Hi Jackie,
Give you another option to try (i did it in PS2): Shadow highlights...amount shadow 30%....highlights 10% and then +10 contrast. Lightened the FG a bit and put the contrast back in. Let me know what you think.

Oh man Roman nailed this one !!!!

I like how some of the shadows toward the middle of the image were opened up. Might even try getting some of the darker tones to Dmax for extra contrasts !!!

Beautiful image Jackie Very strong composition and great feel !!!

jackie, what great suggestions you had from so many. My impression of the first post was that it was a bit dark, but your friends have worked through all that. love the comp.

Roman, re your statement about. "Lightened the FG a bit and put the contrast back in." Was this done with a mask or dodge? Still trying to learn....:)

    Hi Hazel.
Actually.....all I did with the jpeg was adjust shadow/highlights with the settings I posted and then adjusted the contrast. there are many ways to do this.....this just happened to be the quickest......not always the best. I almost always use layer masks. I also use all the tools in PS.......and sometimes i re-visit them and try different approaches. Lately....especially for B&W tweaks....I'm loving the dodge and burn tool....old school....but still can fine tune many images. I too am always tweaking....always learning!
