    Default Slide Show Software

    Greetings,
I was looking for an inexpensive software program to create a slideshow of my images with sound. Does anyone have experience with an easy to use one?
    Best,
    Michael

If you're a Mac user, iMovie latest version in ilife 09 - is the best and easiest program in my opinion. (and you can include video clips too)

To add a question here, what about Power Point? I see P. P. presentations all the time and they can be slick:). Is there an advantage to P. P. over these other programs or visa versa?

Power point is very good; I use it often (like many times per month).

For free you can get openoffice (openoffice.org) and get a word processor, excel-like spreadsheet, and power-point like program (plus others) that are pretty good. I have moved some things between these systems (MS office and open office programs) and they are mostly compatible (but not everything is perfect with either). Open office also works on linux.

For Windows; Pro Show Gold is a great program. Easy to use and alot of options/control.
For Mac: I just started using iMovie. I'm surprised how easy it is to use.

I use proshow producer.....it is great.....and when I add music......I can synch it very nicely and allows me to control it by the millisecond.......yeah.....I'm a little anal when it comes to that.

Thanks Roger, I am trying Open Office's presentation program and it seems to work nicely. I'm not too familiar with Power Point, but this Oo.org program seems very similiar.

    Proshow Gold or Proshow Producer
    www.photodex.com

you can make slide shows, screen savers, output as a single EXE file, add music, transitions, etc.
v4.0 can output to both DVD & BluRay discs

Powerpoint works well for simple slide shows

Hey Paul. I downloaded the trial version of Proshow Gold and it really does a lot but I am having a problem with the resolution of the created shows? They look great until I maximize the window, then they loose so much res. that they are unusable IMO? Is this due to the trial version or what. I created shows using 400kb files and 1mb files but the same happens with both? What's up:confused:

I would appreciate if someone that has used both Proshow Gold and Proshow Producer would comment on what the upgrade to Producer gets you. I really like Proshow Gold and use it a lot. Are there one or two things that stand out in Producer that make it worth the extra $$ in your opinion?
    Thanks

I use Proshow Producer, it is a awesome program and the support staff is great. I would probably start with Proshow Gold. Photodex is a great company to do business with.
    Best,
    Howard.

What Maxis said.... PicturesToExe. Has every option I can think of, user friendly, and will auto publish to several web sites if you care to (youtube, vimeo). The nice thing about pte is that you generate a stand alone executable that you can run on any other PC without having to have special software or a runtime installed.

Another vote for ProShow (I think I upgraded from Gold to Producer, or vice versa). Great programme, which I was able to teach myself. This was about 2 years ago, and there are now books and all kinds of tutorials available. I used it primarily for a slide show of one of my kids, mostly with photos, but incorporated video clips as well. You can also buy backgrounds, transitions, templates, etc. from them and I believe from at least 1 third party. You might also check out www.proshowenthusiasts.com and http://choicebackgroundsserver.com/index.php?cPath=2.

Jory, I have downloaded the proshow gold trial version and have tried it. The shows look great until I maximize the window and then they fall apart! I have tried large file sizes and get the same results! I have contacted the company and they can't seem to give me a method that solves the problem. I haven't actually projected a show with a digital projector, would this create a show with high resolution? What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated:confused:

I use free Keynote software for the Mac, which does an excellent job.

I have used ProShow Gold for several years with excellent results. They project beautifully, in fact PSG is used by my camera club and other local clubs for their digital competitions.

I think you are judging the preview full screen that is not the final resolution once saved for a DVD or CD show. One thought though - gather or copy all of your images into a new folder before dragging into PSG. This will save you problems later. I have even used it with imported video clips and lots of audio.

I have solved this problem with the help of "help" from techs! The problem was with the executable startup image size setting and the quality/preformance settings under the options tabs when you are creating output. The shows look very good but I have yet to project one!:)
