    Default Brant

    Hello to all:

This is my first post. I am a nature photographer from Puerto Rico. This Brant is a very rare migrant visitor to Puerto Rico. The last known record of a sighting was in 1977. This image was captured at the Salt Flats of Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge.

Welcome to BPN Elvin! I love Brant, glad you chose that as your first post. Good pose, and the head angle is nice (not looking away). Seeing that this species is so rare in your area I'd say that this is an excellent "record" shot. On an artistic point of view, however, it is compositionally very "blah". Such a centered composition is rarely interesting. Try placing your subject on one side, with more open space where it is looking towards. If the area your are photographing from permits it a lower shooting angle will give you a much more intimate perspective too. A black point adjustment would also give this image more "pop". Looking forward to more from you!!

Welcome Elvin! Well done catching this rarity....we get lots of them during winter and it is one of my favourite geese. Of course you can be proud of getting a decent photograph of such a rarity in your country. However, with a bit more space on the right (and less on the left) and a lower shooting angle you would have turned this registration into a winner.

Welcome, Elvin! Great find and eye contact. I converted the image to sRGB, changed the crop, increased the saturation and sharpened the bird more. Keep them coming!

Thank you all for your comments. Next time I'll try to recompose a better shot. I was lucky enough to get it that close in the first place looking at the camera. The spot where I was shooting from was really muddy and my hiking boots sank in the mud.
