    Default Tractor Trailer Truck...

This Bald Eagle was photographed from my car in Homer, AK. The background was a tractor trailer truck parked near the campground parking lot. Canon 600mm f/4L IS lens with the 1.4X II TC and the EOS 1Ds MII. Fill flash at -2 stops with Better Beamer.

Wow, what a beautiful portrait of this eagle! Your most unusual background compliments your subject very uniquely.

Very nice. All you need now is a blue border to complete the motif :D

This BG really is red. :) Great details and flash work.

Good use of a different BG....I like the red. Nice detail and perfect use of flash......and you were fortunate to have such a clean eagle.

    Hi Lana,

In Homer, clean, white-headed birds were the norm. It is a shame about the ridiculous ban...

Hi Artie, only nit to pick would be to get a bit higher if possible to get the whole head in the solid red background band.

There are so many great photos being posted on this forum, it becomes hard to keep to the original purpose ;)

This highly unusual BG really makes the white feathers stand out. No nits from little ol' me. I love it.

Wow Artie, I aspire to be as good as you some day. Great photo. Since this is supposed to be a critique, the one thing I might change would be to clone out the light area in the lower right hand corner. I found my eye wandering there and thus detracting from an otherwise awesome image. And thus, the student, at least for the moment, becomes the teacher ;-)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I could, of course, have easily gotten rid of all the whitish areas on the frame edges but it was a conscious choice to keep all of them. Here's why: the larger whitish area in the LRC balances both the thinner whitish strip along the top (but primarily on the left and cental frame edges) and the bird's white head.

If anything, I might have pointed the lens an inch more to the right...

I often learn from posted comments but in this case I have once again become the teacher Such determinations are of course totally subjective.

Fantastic image, all you needed was some blue for the all American Bird.
    Love it
