Great action capture. Usually only see these guys soaking in the water or carrying snowballs. Love the body position and look on his face. I'd also like a little more room on top (if available) to give him a bit more space to fly into. I'd rather think this capture is of him dive bombing one of his playmates in the hot springs but jumping a creek is nice too :). Nicely done.
I don't miss the room at the top because as I see it, he is traveling diagonally to the right and down, not gonna bump his little head on the top of the frame at all.
I would definitely like to see the BG toned down a little.
Hey! Nice to see this as I was there a couple of weeks ago as well and got similar photographs. While sitting alongside that stream I noticed that it was easier to get away with such photographs if i used a longer focallenght, with the monkeys slightly further away. By doing that (and perhaps by taking a slightly higher shooting angle) you would have avoided the hot white spots in the background...and while this angle is nice, a higher angle would brought the river in scene, which gives the monkey something to jump over. How long did you go there...and when were you there...? As I noticed the snow started melting soon after we left.
I like this image. The Monkey in Flight, as Jim puts it is different than the monkey images we see. I like the action captured. A wider angle with the river would have been good. However, going higher would have resulted in reduced eye contact, as it is looking downwards. Thanks for sharing.
I was there in mid Feb for 3 days and we had a big dump of snow the first and last nights. I do have a number of other decent jumping shots with a longer lens and different perspective, but this was my fave due to the posture
very tame animals but still a good time. The eagles in Hokkaido were great though...
