Hope I got this in the right place, it is mostly desaturated. The background was done by using the "colorize" mode in H/S and using a slightly different tone than a normal sepia.

When I shot this, I almost didn't notice the little warbler. When I saw the image full-size, it begged for this treatment. I did a similar one a couple of weeks ago with a finch in a dead tree, and Julie showed me how nice it looked with the background in monochrome. Hope you like this one... ;)

Nice! I like how the bright yellow catches your attention.

For me, the bird is a bit lost in that big frame...I cut it down to show another perspective...just something to think about.

Julie, I do like your version. It shows a different concept which I like. My thoughts on the original was to have the bird look overwhelmed by the large frame. Sort of a commentary on the times, dontcha know... ;) It would probably look better with some taken off the top and bottom to make a pano crop.

Kerry, I like the idea behind this and Jules re-post hits the mark for me.

I like that one too Dave! Thanks to both of you! I appreciate this open dialog and presentation of different ideas. Just one of the factors that makes BPN such a positive experience.

I like your capture and image with the de-colorization Kerry, I like Julie's crop, it puts all of the attention on your subject; and Dave's horizontal composition...Dave's composition would be the classic rendition to showcase this little guy...good show...

Kerry, I think all of the posts are really good - and I see where you were going with your original idea so that makes more sense to me now. I like that you stepped outside the box and tried this - it really does bring attention to that beautiful bird!

The conventional cropping is what Dave shows and I would have suggested. After looking at Jules I like it best since it breaks the rules but so does the base image with the color changes. Really sweet looking and would make fine print !!!

I put in a light source - a "mini sun". I think it makes the image a bit more interesting. What do you think?
