    Default Northern Fulmar

I went on a winter pelagic trip off the New Hampshire shore yesterday. The light was on the harsher side and only few birds came close to the boat. I wish for a better wing position in this one, but you take what you can get on those trips.

    Axel:

This guy is sharp, and I think the detail in the left wing tip is very nice. Hard to work with this light, but the exposure looks good. The background has enough detail to establish the environment, without distracting.

    Cheers

You did well in tough conditions. A small crop from the bottom would not hurt.

I was thinking that this was not photographed in a PA lake. How many folks got seasick?

Thanks, Artie! The trip had been postponed several times due to high winds. The sea was very calm yesterday and no one got sick. On the downside, we were relatively late and the number of alcids and tubenoses was relatively low.

You don't get to photograph these types of birds everyday, so you did well considering the circumstances.

Considering the conditions , I think this is outstanding. Great detail and exposure for this type of light.

    Hi Axel,
I agree.....with the light.....you did extremely well and on the moving boat. I really like the wing on the left.....as it shows off the gorgeous detail. I also like the dark blue BG......really sets the bird off. Was it also handheld? If it was......I'm even more impressed.....and on a moving boat!

Really, Axel, a beautiful image. Your self critique is really picky, which is good, but I think we should not overlook the beauty of this image and the skill that it took to create it.

Axel, I'm not familiar with this bird-but looks like a nice image to me. The one wing has alot of beautiful detail, I love the blue BG -very nicely done.

Thanks, Roman! Yes, it was handheld. Tripods wouldn't work because of the vibrations of the engine.
