I love the interaction of this one! The whites don't look too hot to me. I like the details and the crop-BG is lovely! Very nice.

Ah, for lack of a good head angle on the adult. With the adult's head turned away from the ligth, the eye is dark (as it is in shadow).

Selectively lightening the eye socket and the pupil would help. Lovely interaction.

    Was this Bonavneture?

This is one sweet image and capture Mr. Peters...a true "Kodak Moment"...I would recommend on lightening the mom's eye just a tad and selective sharpen it very little...Love it...good show...

Lightening the pupil and the lores will no doubt help but for prize-winning images a proper head angle (or two proper head angles with this image) is/are mandatory.

Yep - a better HA on the adult would have been excellent - just ddin't happen on this day. Can lighten he eye etc - but agree with Artie - Both need the HA!

Btw - same problem for mum feeding the chick images - just couldnt get a shot I was happy with - the chicks head dissapears down mums throat pretty much - just couldnt get a shot were the chicks eyes were still visible and a acceptable head angle on EITHER!
Artie - nest is on the ground, It is Portland, Victoria Australia

    :)

Thanks for the info, Lance, and for not being defensive. Sorry--I forgot the Aussie connection.

With a ground nest you did a great job of isolating the subjects.

Hi Artie - you willnever find me being defensive - Here to Learn :)

Any tips you can pass on for images of parents feeding the chicks - spent a day observing - took a lot of images but failed to get one that - Had a correct HA on both and in Which the Chick's eyes were visible.

    Many Thanks :)

    Hey Lance,

    re:

That is good. It is not true for some folks, even here on BPN. Heck, that might include me on ocassion :)

Just spend as much time as you can there and keep your eyes open for good situations.

    Cheers.

    Hi Lance:

I have really enjoyed your Gannet series, and this one is no exception. I have taken the liberty of cropping your amazing photograph and lightening the eye a bit. You have captured amazing behavior and action here...something which most of us rarely have a chance to see. Even without the perfect HA, I believe this capture is a true winner!

    Congratulations!

Hi Marina - Thanks for your changes - I have to confess to being a bit of a perfectionist - this shot was in my discards pile - Glad you have enjoyed them - the colony is a wonderful wonderful place, although it can be quite inhospitable, extremely windy and wetish and great big bllod sucking flies that make you swell up in welts - Wouldn't miss it for the world - could spend days there just observing as the birds go about their daily lives.

    Stay tuned for more ...
