I can't believe that I have been talked by my family into getting a small dog. The smallest dog I have ever owned is a Springer Spaniel mix. Well any way we got a little black dog that has one white paw and was born with no tail. (wasn't docked). She was to be kept on a trial basis for none week. Even with an accident once in awhile and a few chewed items she has wormed her way into our hearts even before the week was up.We have decided to call her Mittzi short for mitten because of the white paw. She is half Minature Schnauser and half Border Collie. We however have invented a new theory as to what type of a dog she is.
Fictitious Theory
The type of dog is an "Icelandic Ratter. These small dog's were bred to help rid the Reykjavik city sewers of rats during the great outbreaks of the plague in the late 1900's. Typical of a ratter is it's lack of a tail and a wiry coat. Both of which help to keep the animal easier to clean after it has been in the sewers. One of
the most highly desired features of a Ratter is to find one with only one white paw. This is believed to be a genetic characteristic of the most famous Icelandic Ratter of all time "Sigurbjornsson". During the annual Reykjavik Ratter contest of 1863 he killed ninety-three brown Norwegian rats in an hour . This no doubt
pleased the citizens of Reykjavik as they are well known for their dislike of anything Norwegian. Despite their ferocity with rats Icelandic Ratters are very even tempered and gentle with children and other pets. They are well known to make wonderful lap dogs.
Blessings to all,
chris
