Hi Alex - a big warm welcome to the BPN Family - a couple of things to help us - help you.
Please include the full shooting info when you post - Shutter speed, Aperture, Exposure compenstaion and the likes will help us see what you are doing, Also only post/link one photo at a time.
Good looking bird - Backgound compliments the bird very nicley, Head angle is slightly off in a couple of them, nice catchlight in the eye (You used flash?) Think they could be sharpened just a tad more - when you downsized to post did you use Bicubic Sharper (Could be all it is)
Overall - beautiful first post - looking forward to more :)
Thanks for your comments and I apologize... I thought of the one image per post was IF I was uploading... it won't happen again.
This images were taken with a Nikon D80 + Nikkor 300mm f/2.8VR + Kenko 1.4X Teleconverter. I used a Nikon 580 Speedlite flash with a Better Beamer on it and the camera set up was mounted in my car's door with an Arca Swiss Head made by a famous local (Bangkok) manufacturer.
Would you please help me understand what you mean by "...Head angle is slightly off in a couple of them..."?
In the first image, she had a look at me... in the second image, she had -just- swallowed a fish and in the third image, she is scoping for a new prey...
I try to keep the frames as natural as possible and -as far as I can- avoid much post-edition.
I'll try sharpening the originals a bit and see how it goes... thanks for the advice.
Might be common over there but stunning birds for us here !!!
Lance was referring to the angle of the head/beak. I you have the bird just looking at the camera, just a couple of degrees seems to look better and will even appear sharper !! If you have that slight turn the beak and eye will be in the same plane ... so both will be sharp !!! Lots of times we are unable to attain that angle but sure strive for it !!!
Not sure what your shutter speed was but might have limited flash output? Top bird could have used catchlight and second some fill flash Do like the a lot as presented, razor sharp and sweet bg !! Looking forward to many more ... one at a time :) !! Big Congrats !!!
