    Default Stallion Season

The wild horses will soon have foals, and that means the stallions will be battling over the mares. This was taken during one of my recent workshops with a participant's 80-200 (I had loaned her my 80-400). This guy is warning another stallion that he is too close to his band. Early morning light, D300, 80-200mm @ 200mm, f 5.6, 1/800, iso 400.

While the 80-200 is much lighter than the 80-400, I prefer the IQ of latter!

Lovely pose, he looks like a porcelain figurine, so graceful!

IQ ooks good to me, maybe you just have to work at it more than with the other lens.

    Well done,

Very good Dave getting this with a raised leg. The lighting accentuates the physique of the horse well.

You captured a beautiful regal pose and the early morning lighting is really pretty. The horse may just be slightly too centered for my taste but it's not a big deal. I hope someday to have the opportunity to capture as beautiful an image.

David, I really like the soft blue BG it compliments the rest of the color tones in the image. I love the raised foot. The mane and tail are gorgeous!

    David,
I like the soft light and the pose. The raised leg is a plus. Sharpening helps. Thanks for sharing.

    Cheers,

    David,

With this picture, you really captured the essence of a wild stallion. Everything works here. I think this is your best shot of a lone stallion to date.

    Congratulations!

Great pose. Light and ground cover perfectly capture a the environment of a New Mexico wild horse.
