Does the shadow on the neck area kill this shot?
Is the small twig on perch distracting?
Do the bands on the legs take away from the image?
    Thanks in advance.

Very cute shot Denise. Background colors complement the Scrub Jay nicely. Technically the shadow is unfortunate. Focus seems a little too far forward for me (beak and front foot). The cheeky pose endears it to me though.

I love that pose, Denise. Agree on the front focusing. Small twig is OK with me. I don't like the shadow, but I wouldn't trash because of it. It depends if you have others :)
You may have closed the aperture some, how close were you?

Fabs, I was pretty close-I have better ones-just wasn't sure if I should keep it. I liked his pose-

The closer you are, the less DOF you have. I like the pose too, and would keep it because of it.

I love the pose on this one, too. I think it makes the image. I don't mind the shadow so much. Too bad about the bands but if they help this species survive, so be it.

    Denise:

My first impression on this image was, great pose, followed by, needs more DOF. You certainly had enought shutter speed to trade a bit for a smaller aperture. When the tail is parallel to the image plane like this one, it really stands out when its blurry, IMHO. The shadow is down my list of real concerns. The bands, hmm. Ideally I would prefer none, but wouldn't trash image for that reason.

    Thanks.

Great pose Denise!. I like the BG and sharpness in the critical spots (the oof stuff is ok IMO). I would attempt to remove the twig if it were me and see if I could do it cleanly? But, the twig is minor to me. As for the bands, if you have bands, it's cool that they are "color coordinated":).
