Image created in Nyuki, Kenya. This was the dominant male of the troop, although seemingly docile here, he made some rather threatening gestures towards us. This is a slide scan so I don't have any detailed exposure data. Hope you like my image. C and C welcome, I'm here to learn. - John

    John,
I like the eyes. Dof is adequate. A higher fstop would have been helpful as well, if possible. I did minor tweaking and increased the contrast a bit.

    Cheers,

Hi Peter, Thank you for your kind comments. I'm using a Nikon Super CoolScan 5000 with LaserSoft, SilverFast software. Unfortunately Nikon refuses to support their scanner under Mac OS 10.5 Leopard, so I had to purchase a 3rd party app. - John

Sabyasachi's tweaks make the image shine. John, your slide scans are looking real good.

Like the positioning and posture though having the eyes look at you would have been over the top. I have only photographed primates in captivity but it seems very hard to get those types of images so what do I know.

I would clone out the catch light streak in the eyes - it seems distracting to me.

This looks great for a scan John, neat portrait, I like it with the increased contrast of the repost.

Fantastic portrait, great clean BG, good placement, eyes to die for and the repost really makes it pop. There is also a soft look to it that is very pleasant.
