    Default Great Egret Portrait

Great Egret Portrait - I liked the way the breeding colors so closely matched the background. No post processing done here except for sharpening and levels. The eye is not optimal, but an attempt to correct the position in PS ended in failure as I could not successfully clone the pattern of capillaries in the eye. I may try this again when I have more time (any pointers appreciated) but as this is full frame with just a little cropped from the top I would like the ability to retain the detail to print large.

Love the green BG. I'd like better eye contact. I think you've got some room to push your exposure to the right. Here's a repost with a little lightening of the eye and whiter whites. How do you like it?

Thanks Doug - yes, I agree about the eye - I will see if I can fix it. The added exposure looks much better, I really should have attended to this before posting. I was so taken with the greens I forgot the whites! Thanks!

This is a great example as to when to use fill flash. Doug did well with the re-pose.

Lovely colours and Doug's repost is a good step up. Tried a small nudge to the eye with the Bloat tool in the Liquify filter - how does that look?

Killer bird and a nice image as noted above. Tony's repost wins the contest! The bit of sunlight along the top of the bill bugs me as does the darkest area (ulc).

Thanks for all the helpful comments - much appreciated. Tony - a great idea with the eye - much simpler and the result is good. Maxis - if only I'd had a flash with me! Artie - this was taken at Gatorland. Unfortunately I had only an hour in the middle of the day, the light was horrible and this was taken in the shaded area near the rookery. I had never been there before but am planning to return in the next couple of weeks for an extended session. Thanks again.

Great job on the BKGR. I bit off the top would not hurt: always best with images of this type to have the bird's eye well above the horizontal centerline.

    Hi Artie,
Thanks - just forgot to crop it after reworking!
