    Default RWBB Third Time

Caught him just before full display but I liked the contrast in colors. 40D, 400DO + 1.4xTC, f6.3, 1/320s, ISO 640, tripod mount, cropped for comp.

I like the interesting pose too with the wing starting to open up. Good BG too. I don't know what the perch looked like lower, but I would have pointed the camera down a bit to place the bird higher in the frame. Good job on most of the blacks...perhaps some fill would have opened up some details on the underside close to the wing. The reds on the epaulettes are easy to burn on these guys, good job on that...but I think the colouring could be a bit more "vivid". Overall great job.

You can also crop from the top to get him higher in the frame. :)

Great BG certainly made for a good opportunity to create pictures of this Redwing.

Great exposure control, details and BG. Another vote for putting the bird a bit higher in the frame and I might sharpen it a bit less to avoid noise in the blacks.

Very nice Steve, cropping has been mentioned. Very nice exposure on this difficult bird to photograph

Thanks for the comments. This perch is shaped like a sideways Y with him sitting on the top leg of the V portion. Cropping more from the top would've left some open space under the perch and shown how thick it is (somewhat large for this size bird). Fill flash would be nice to open the shadows a bit but I don't own one. Daniel, you are right about the red. It's hard to keep that from burning out while still getting some detail in the shadows. Thanks again for the comments and suggestions.
