    Default Red-Tailed Hawk

This bird came in close and gave me a great look at its underwing feather detail.

I like the underwing details, pose and eye contact. In your experience, is the 50D significantly noisier at ISO 500 compared with 400?

    Doug:

Very nice underwing display, perfect tail fan, good composition and eye contact

What was the lighting like, direction and quality? Was there snow on the ground to give fill?

    thanks!

Doug, This is really nice! Like the eye contact. Nice to see the wings and tail wide open with all that detail!

Couldn't ask for more in this shot. Awesome detail on a beautiful specimen. Sharp as a tack and the light is quite nice.

Randy, this was taken from a boat in Florida. The light was reflecting off the water. I believe the sun was still a little high in the sky when I took this photo at about 2 pm.

Doug, you wouldn't know you were in Florida and high bright sun just by looking at this very nice image. Exposure and details are very good, excellent indeed. O love the fan and wing tips. He is king of his domain and it shows. Lots to like here.

I don't do a lot of ISO 500 work, so I'd have to dig through my files before rendering an opinion Axel. Maybe this weekend I'll have some time.
