Default In or Out? - Ghost Crab

This little guy is just a touch over an inch across. He couldn't decide whether to dive into his burrow like most of his relatives did, or keep his eyes on me. Moving close enough to get his portrait was a slow process. I contemplated shooting at eye-level but I would have missed the color on his back and lost sight of its burrow. (I'm not knowledgeable enough to know whether this crab is male or female.) Image created on the Beach at Mile Marker 14, Oahu, Hawaii.

I am okay with this non-traditional point of view. I love the colors on the crab and the fact that he is partly in his burrow. You might want to tone down the sand as all that contrast tends to distract from the crab.

Is this an improvement? - John

Hi John, toning down means darker, you made it lighter and it is even more distracting. I like your point of view and the placement of the crab in the frame. Great idea.

I do like the placement in the frame as it allows him a place to move into. Sand is a nice graphic backdrop to the differently colored crab.
