IMHO blur on the wings is OK as long as you have the eye sharp.
You've got to love the action on this one. I don't understand the surface
Is it ice or you've actually managed to get the moment when the bird
is just about to touch the water?
For what is worth, I like this one a lot... IMO the frozen droplets of water in mid air with the wing and feet blur indicates that the bird is moving fast! I love the action capture in this one.
Lovely low angle and good exposure. Too bad you weren't able to nail this one...the unsharpness is not enough to make it cool...since it is just off. Why did you go for ISO100? At this speed I'd say you could use all the shutterspeed you could get...
To me its not the blur of the wings that are bothersome (I personally like slight motion blur in wings), but rather their position. Straight up would have been best...perhaps you have a frame taken just before or after? Good action though, and it's neat how the ice surface negates any sign of splashing we normally see on water.
Oh, Denise, I hope you get more ice running images! I love the action in this but would like it a bit sharper in the feet especially. love the action and great profile of this bird!
Axel, Agree it's a bit soft-Thanks
Jasper, Never in my wildest dreams did I expect him to fly-I was photographing them on the ice and ISO 100 was fine-had I suspected flight shots I would have raised my ISO and shutter speed-also I don't understand what you meant by-the unsharpness is not enough to make it cool-What does that mean?:)Thanks
Daniel, I have the other frames-one posted in ETL Forum w/ the wings full down-just wasn't sure about this one and wanted advice-Thanks
Cheryl, Thanks
Denise, I took a look at your other thread. I do prefer the wings down pose there - but prefer the additional foot action here.
P.S. When doing bird photography my ISO is set to at least "400" 95% of the time...always ready for some inevitable action to be captured. Your 5D can handle noise quite handily at higher ISOs - don't be afraid to keep it up there :-)
