    “Going Home”

Note: The base image was modified by applying a textured sandstone finish to bring out the multiple color hues in the background, and to showcase the gull’s texture and wing details. A water color filter was used to simulate the painted look and feel.

This little guy was going home at the end of a long day patrolling and scouting the beach for free hand outs from the locals and the tourists; at Estero Beach, in Fort Myers Florida. . He was painted with a Nikon D200, using a Nikkor AF-S 300mm f/4D IF-ED lens , and a Nikkor 1.4 T/C

    Image solution:
    focal length @ 630mm / exposure mode @ aperture priority / in camera matrix metering / ISO @ 400 / 1/1500sec. - f/8 / white balance @ cloudy / AF - mode @ dynamic range, auto - continuous / color space @ sRGB /lighting solution - no speedlight, ambient light / exposure comp @ -0.3EV / tone comp @ +1 degree / hue adjustment @ +1 degree / saturation factor @ +1 degrees / support platform - no tripod, hand held. /

The sandstone treatment really works well with this subject! Have never thought of combining it with a watercolor filter, have to give that a try with an osprey soon.
