While visiting the inlaws over Christmas I was able to get down to the Everglades NP for a day. I may have been too early, first week of Dec., the water was still pretty high. Still managed to find a few birds, and it is always nice just to get out.

All input welcome. I do not get many chances to see these species so it is all new to me.

    Thanks,
    Tommy

Great exposure and HA Tommy. Love the full wing spread and it looks like you got nice and low. VWD.

HI Tommy - exposure looks good - love those wings - nice low angle - like it a lot.

Only thing that could have improved would be a bit more seperation between the birds neck and body area - wasn't going to happen with ths pose from this angle.

    Keep em coming.

Very dynamic capture. I really like this. It looks a little pallid under the wings, as though you might have run shadow/highlights at too small a radius. That's just a guess, but in any case, I suspect that starting with the raw file and doing a little masking, you could get a good deal more pop out of this one. I think it would be worth the trouble. Nice job.

    David,
Have not done anything to the area under the wings yet but will give it a try. I agree it needs a little something. I will say that all the things that came out well in this photo are due in a large part to this forum. Thank you to all that contribute.

Just for fun, I tried masking the bird and applying shadow/highlights with a sizable increase in midtone contrast. Then inverted that mask and used it on a curves adjustment layer to darken the background a bit. I think the subject pops out a little more with these edits.

I really like the repost. Hopefully I will be able to recreate that with the original. Again let me say how I appreciate the advise, it has really helped.
