    Hello ladies and gents.
I just stopped my car to smoke a cigarette when I saw several of these guys playing around. I thought it was a good chance to try my new lens. I traded in my old AF 105 Micro for the new version AF-S VR for the whole purpose of getting birds a close range like in this case. This was the first time I used the lens and also the first time I use a lens with VR. I was quiet happy after a few shots and that made me think that the 70-200 f/2.8 VR could be a nice lens to add to my bag.

I cloned out a few birds from the BG, cropped it vertically and added canvas on the bottom. Now I think it is a bit too tight on the right.

    Comments welcome.... Cheers!

Never knew anyone who used a 105 for flight shots. This one looks good. I find the BG distracting but with a lens this short that is hard to controll. As a side note, if you like this lens then you will LOVE the 70/200VR as a flight lens as well. It is probably one of the sharpest lenses Nikon makes.!!!!!!

I like the landing pose and exposure control and would give it a bit more room on the right. What is the green pattern left of the bird? Have fun with your new lens!

Joe... Hi! I used my old 105 many times before but it was to slow to focus. There are some parks full of ducks and 105 mm seems really nice for landing birds at close distances. I used to have the older 80-200 but since it wasn't AF-S or VR and so huge I sold it to a friend.

Hi Daniel! More than a landing pose it was a hovering pose. Some one was feeding them and they were catching the food in the air. Green pattern? On the left just over the head is a small island cover with grass. The darker green from the head to the legs is water under shadow.
