Nice HA, great exposure! Looking at the perch, it almost appears as if the focal point was about an inch or two in front of the chickadee. Had it moved since you obtained focus? Or was this a handlheld shot?

    Hi Kurt,
I went back into my original image and the focus (center focus point activated) was on the red square. One shot AF. I think focus goes back(towards us) from there?? Should have tried to focus on the eye and maybe would have had more DOF. Not sure how far focus should go on either side. I may have also done something to my camera's focus when I tried to clean off a spot on mirror/ focusing screen area. Maybe someone with more technical knowledge can chime in. It was a tripod shot.

Jackie, What camera body were you using and how many AF points does it have?

I shoot still birds with a tripod on one shot AF and feel I get the best results-but if I shoot HH or flying I use Al Servo

Love the pose and exposure .. I always seem to get these guys too dark or too bright. Looking at the AF focus point relative to the sharpest point on the perch I'm guessing that your camera is front focusing just a bit. I'm guessing that you were about 25' away which would give you about 2" of DoF at f6.3.

I like it Lady Jackie...just eliminate the out of focus branch in the upper right side of the frame, it's taking away from the image...Love the rest...good show...:)

I agree - it's a great image. Along with evict the oof branch, you could take a tad off the bottom.
    Really nice

Was going to say another vote for the eviction of the oof branch but you beat me to it. Like the composition and the eye contact very much.
    Regards,
