Canon EOS-1D Mark II N, Shooting Date/Time: 2/17/2009 07:21:49, Shutter Speed 1/5000Sec. Av(Aperture Value) F6.3, Evaluative metering, Exposure Compensation -1, ISO 400, Lens: EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM. Hand held while walking the fishing pier at Fort DeSoto. Cropped for a 11 x14 print, almost full frame here.
Fort DeSoto is a magical place where it seems time stands still. The cool ocean breeze, the warm morning sunrise, the birds.........you must go there! I know this gull is not in full plumage yet. But he worked with me from 15 feet away while the others flew off or kept moving around. And I appreciated that. I liked his curious spirit. Thanks for looking.

I do crop for a print to post. But I have thought seriously to crop for a presentation just for the web. Perhaps it is time to make that final step. Thanks for the feed back Randy. You always have something positive to say.
The lack of colour in the background draws attention to the red around the bird's eye and the red in its bill. I like this.
The bird's head contains interesting curves, colours and textures. The bird's body on the other hand, is a comparatively uninteresting mass. Perhaps there is scope to crop out some of the bird's body? I don't think the bird's body adds to your otherwise lovely shot.
