This morning I found this handsome guy resting where he lives -- in heavy brush on a small island in the middle of a small lake. I've seen him here before and have witnessed him on the hunt on other occasions. I hope the busy background isn't too distracting. The image is heavily cropped. This is the best I could do today . . .

    Hi Wendell

Tough getting on in the open !! It is possible but don't have many !! All you can do there is make sure there are no sticks growing out of his head or peculiar merge !! Shoot like you did wide open for minimizing dof !!

Exposure and sharpness look good .. btw with your set up it becomes a 600mm!!!

    Hi Wendell,
These little guys are hard to get out in the open...you do have sharp details with a good head angle and sharp eye...the only pressing thing that I would do is to clone out the branch that's touching his neck and the thicker one going through the body...

    Al,

    I don't understand how it becomes 600mm?
Isn't it 400mm or am I missing something?
OK I know I'm missing something

    Cheers,

ilija, the crop factor of the camera, 1.5x, makes the effective focal length 600mm. 200x2=400x1.5=600.

wendell, you did as well as you could here!! it is their habitat. i like the exposure in the nice light. i think you could easily clone out that stick intersecting it's chest.

Hi Wendell - agree - tough to get out in the open - exposure looks good as does sharpness - would clone out the branch cutting across the birds neck.

    Keep tehm coiming :)
