    Default Nicobar Pigeon (Captive)

    Hi

I recently took a trip to my local zoo where they have a huge building filled with tropical plants and free flying birds. Its a great place to have a bit of fun with a camera but the light is always not to great. As I was wandering around this Nicobar Pigeon landed in front of me. I thought it worth posting for interest as it is such a beautiful bird even though a bit tight in the frame. Apparently this is the closest living relative to the dodo. I am glad the feral pigons in my back garden don't look like this or I would never leave home :)

    Taken with 1Dmk3 and 300mm lens at ISO1600 F4 -0.33Ev and 1/200s

    Cheers

Stunning bird! Love it! To have been taken at a Zoo it looks preety great to me Rich, high ISO but wonderfull detail, light is soft and nice, BG, pose, and colors are simply outstanding, I wonder if you could try removing the ring in the leg. COngratulatinos!

I agree with you that this is rather tight in the frame, but you've captured the textures and colours of the plumage quite nicely. Very cool looking bird!!

The tightness in the frame is really my only criticism of this image. Well done with the Mark III at high ISO, good position to show the plumage and just right head position.

Color and detail make this for me. Just needs a bit more room.

This was one of the target birds I wanted badly during my trip to Thailand.
Unfortunately, I never made it that far south as I dropped my camera in Krung Ching and had to return to Bangkok to get it repaired.

Beautiful bird, I agree with the others about tightness of frame, otherwise, nicely done, thanks for sharing.

Beautifully captured Rich with excellent color and detail and a nice low angle. Great BG and my only thoughts would be a little more canvas on the bottom and to the right. Thanks for sharing.
