I was trying for a more intimate crop in frame of this Cormorant, but it just would not let me have anything else and time was against me. So I had to settle for this one. What I wanted was what Fabs got! Next time.

Canon EOS-1D Mark II N, Shooting Date/Time: 2/13/2009 08:49:43, Shutter Speed 1/320Sec. Av(Aperture Value) F8.0, Evaluative metering, Exposure Compensation +2/3, ISO 320, Lens: EF300mm f/2.8L IS USM. Hand held at minimum distance 10 foot.

You really nailed the blacks here Grady. I am wishing the highlights on the bill to be toned down and for a slightly better head angle. I like the open bill, and the neutral BG works well. You could perhaps add a bit of canvas in front for a bit of breathing room for the tip of the bill. Overall well done!

Love that eye, the bill seems a bit messy and distracting to me. Exposure looks great, I say good job for running out of time.

    Grady:

I agree with Daniel about the details in the blacks, really nice. More room in front and a cleaner bill would be nice. The eye is magic. Nice light, simple background.

This is a wonderful portrait of what is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Lovely color on the bird. I do agree with a bit more head tilt and for more than the reason of the pose. Those eyes absolutely light up with some direct lighting on them. If you could have caught the bird with light shining on the eye this great shot would be just that much better.

    Well done

    Tim
