Hello all. Spent another wonderful weekend at Cachuma Lake. (Uncle Gus, the water level is at -10 feet.) Was delighted to see this little lovely there. Kinda goofy techs, first time out with the 580 EX II (where have you been all my life?). Much to learn about balancing fill flash... :)

    50D, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS + 1.4x @ 280mm
Aperture priority, f/13@1/250, evaluative metering EC -1 ISO 200
AI Servo autofocus using back button, HH 580 EX II FEC -1/3 E-TTL mode

    Hi Kerry,
I like the capture...you have sharp details and good color rendition on the bird...catching him out in the clear is a big plus...the background is what it is, let's call it habitat...I would have liked to have seen him looking down at you, instead of away...perhaps if you would have waited, he would of turned his head for a better capture angle...

    Hi Kerry:

Like the capture of a beautiful bird in a natural envirenment. Well done, young Man.

Thanks for information on Lake, must be beautiful at the moment.

    Best regards

Hi Kerry - nice looking bird - don't mind the BG - exposure looks good and flash looks about right to me.
Agree with Gus - looking down would have been preferable.
    Keep em coming :)

Kerry, I don't get to see many of these-Nice exposure and details, Bg is busy but it isn't distracting.

Nice image Kerry. Such a beautiful bird. In most cases this BG would be distracting, but not here - it's hard to be distracted from such a vibrantly coloured bird.

Excellent image Kerry Not much you can do with the surrounding but that is were the bird lives !! Glad you didn't do lots of pruning and presented as is !! Excellent !!! ... btw wonder what it would have looked like wide open?

Sush a lovely bird! Agree that the HA could have been better, but the 'chin up' orientation is not unsightly :) Wonderful colors and detail.
