I brought Daniel, my 10 years old son, to photograph ducks this afternoon. He was using my old equipment: D70S and a Sigma 70-300 with external focus motor. I did set-up the camera is shutter priority at 1/1000s and ISO 400. We played with birds on the ground then at the end I threw a few pieces of bread up in the air. As the ducks flew in from all directions, Daniel just had a blast. Here are the results. I did have to adjust by +1.3 stop, Noiseninja, and remove some background elements in the lower right corner and a catch light since he could not synchronize a flash at that speed. Great end of the day light. Lots of family fun! Ordinary birds, special moment.
Rene,
You ought to be proud. Anyone of us in your shoes, would be thrilled. I am sure, you would plan many more such trips to gather more special moments like these.
Cheers,

A brilliant way to introduce your lad into photography. I had similar experiences with my father when I was growing up but into motorsports photography instead of nature/wildlife. Sadly none of my lads have any tendency towards photography at all!! In good time Daniel will be a great shooter from the result you have shown.
