On the Hooptie the other day with James Shadle. Took multiple shots of a flapping spoonbill, and, after narrowing them down to about 10, chose this one. I guess I have good judgment, as it is identical to the one Artie submitted earlier today. Sorry, Artie - I mean identical in position, not quality. I was on the boat, and Artie was virtually sitting in the water, snapping this spoonbill at the same nanosecond as me. I like Artie's original better, with more foreground beach, but elected to crop the beach out as a juxtaposition to the earlier post, which some viewers seem to prefer.

    Nikon D300, 600mm f/4 VR, ISO 400, Manual exposure, f/8 @ 1/1250 sec

    Thanks for looking.

I like your crop, too, but it needs some CW rotation. Great splash and details, I would lighten the shadow of the bill on the neck.

    Jory,
    Well done.
The image is sharp (AF was workin,;))well exposed and composed.
I like the location of your subject in the frame. Having the Spoonbill centered on the horizontal is perfect for the splashing that was going on.

I rotated the canvas a tiny bit and dodged the shadow on the neck. Just a quickie, the quality can be better.
Dodging in a background copy layer would allow you to adjust how strong you wanted the dodge to be by using the opacity slider.

    Thanks James

Really nice work, Jory, and it was great meeting you! I like the modifications that Dad made, showing the CW rotation, removing the shadow, and tightening the crop a bit. I wouldn't take anything from the left or right, as you've captured those two large splashes that lead to the edge of the frame. Well exposed and very sharp. Hope to see you again!

sorry all, the modified image is not so good as the origine one. I think the most important element of natural photography is the 'natural' ! So, I don't think so...
And in the ps side , I think the modified made the neck 'broken' , that seens not a bird's neck...
