Stunning image with great exposure and beautiful eye contact. Really very lovely and my only wish would be that the angle was not quite so steep but the breeding plumage is awesome and just puts this image over the top for me. Congratulations and thanks for sharing Randy.

    Randy,

Wonderful composition and exposure, the contrasting colors of the eyes and lores is outstanding.

    Judy:

You know how it is at the rookery. Lower angles mean busy backgrounds, so for me it was the best compromise.
The light was wonderful that day, really soft, almost hazy, so I got to work for hours that morning.

I wonder about cropping just a bit off the right hand side.

Thoughts? I wanted to preserve the diagonal line of the foilage which matches his head

I really like the crop as presented and I do understand what it is like at the rookery and I truly think you did an outstanding job with capture. It is just beautiful !!! I love the fresh, clean, crisp look of this image. Love it.

What a beautiful individual you concentrated on Randy. I think the comp is fine as is and wouldn't fiddle with it. There is just the right amount of foliage to offer good balance. There are, however, some hot spots on the egret (e.g. shoulder/upper back) that you may want to try taming during your RAW conversion - this image is worth it!

    Daniel:

On my histogram, the areas you mentioned were at 252-253, so on the ragged edge. I will have a go at bringing them down a might. Thanks for the comments.

I went back and pulled the highlights down 2 points. Let me know what you think.

I like the pose, light, details and breeding colors but would have preferred it with the legs not clipped. Those feathers make it really special.

Randy, it makes a bit of a difference, but I am positive there is even more hidden detail to extract from the brightest areas :-)

P.S. I see the legs as being carefully cut for composition, as opposed to being clipped...

The comp is fine to me. Whites look good too. And who could not the green eye and the delicate plumage? But...the feet are cut off. Minor but noticeable.

    Grady:

I did cut the legs , rather than clipping the virtual feet, but here is a recrop, with all I have at the bottom.
The quality is starting to suffer due to compression, but its good enough to comment on composition.

    Thoughts?

Randy, to me it is much more pleasing like this. It has the room now for the feet if you could see them. Much better now. Over the top. The felicate plumage is very nice. Overall an excellent image. Thanks for the PM and re-post.
