Here in my backyard. About 2 feet of snow still on the ground.

    Hey Rene,
OK....first let me say....I really, really like this.....but I want to discuss why IMO this image breaks a few rules succesfully. First, let's cover an issue that I always recommend when posting on BPN....put a thin black border around the image if it has a lot of white (i.e......high key, snow, etc.)........our BG is white......you have fall off and bleed into the BG color (not your fault or a real issue).....just present better! Criticism......You didn't leave room for "virtual feet".....IMO....you didn't have to...I don't need 4 inches of blurry snow to tell me that he is behind a snow mound........the amount left was just right. Critisism....Square crop.....again....pretty effective in this case as the placement of the chipmunk is ideal....and he is tack sharp! If the BG doesn't add.....don't include it! Who cares about the shape! Critisism....no detail in the snow...my response.....just enough detail to give the mood and feel with nice OOF subtle shadows to give the image a nice sense of depth. Can you try and bring some more detail into the snow????.....sure!.... but it will change the feel....not necessarily better/worse....but different. As always....this is the nicest luxury to have......we can adjust a multitude of ways......and always come up with a winning image. You know my love for that crop tool......I won't even go there.....as this is a very succesful image as presented!

Rene...I believe you have a winner with this one. I agree with Roman's very detailed analysis. Wouldn't change a thing....Good job!

    Roman,

Leave something for the rest of us to do. :)

Totally agree with you and in this kind of light, snow shows little detail and you don't need it, the squirrel is the star.

Well done Rene for the reasons mentioned.

I really like this one, Rene. The pose the sharpness, the snow, - everything.

    Good one Rene!

I like the overall feel of this image. The square format works here.

Looks like he's in the clouds. Great pose and sharpness. Detail in the snow not needed. Nice one.

Some good comments here...I agree with Robert that with this light there isn't any more detail in the snow. Very good contrast here. You might want to photograph such a scene a bit wider at the bottom to emphasize the depth of the snow.

Quite excellent as noted above. I love it as is. Would like to see a bit more sharpening of the snout. Send some of that snow down to FLA; it is (finally) hot here today.
